California-based developer Gilad Development and local design firm A2H recently presented plans for The Lake District, a mixed-use development (see below for link).

Conceptual plans feature a combination of uses such as luxury retail stores, two hotels, restaurants, a farmer's market, office spaces, residences, green space including parks and an untouched preserve area, and more.

“The Lakeland District will have a hug impact on the city,” said Lakeland City Manager Jim Atkinson.

“It will be, by far, the largest development that Lakeland has seen with 160-plus acres of high-scale residential and commercial development.

Atkinson explains that it's not a 20-year phase project. The plan is to take it all down at one time. It’s all going to be done in one phase.
