City of Lakeland, Tennessee
Where Quality of Life is a Way of Life

Welcome Residents

As a resident of this community, you will find the Lakeland government is dedicated to providing a quality living experience for our residents.

For the latest scoop on City Hall, read the "Lakeland Highlights," the City Manager's "blog" (an online chronological log), at http://lakelandcitymgr.blogspot.com/ (external link).

Up-to-date Lakeland information is also available by calling City Hall at 867-2717; on the City's cable access channel, local Channel 19; and on YouTube.com.

2010 Fee Schedule - permit fees, development fees, facility usage fees, etc.

Citizen comments are encouraged at all City Board and Commission meetings. All City meetings are held at Lakeland City Hall located at 10001 Highway 70 in Lakeland.

Lakeland imposes no city property tax. The City funds its operations entirely from Tennessee sales taxes, a portion of which revert to the cities of origin; from a state per-capita rebate of gasoline tax income; and from a few specific fees. Although changes in Tennessee tax law and in population growth resulting in increased needs for services may eventually require the imposition of property taxes, the emphasis in Lakeland has been to provide minimal services and to contract for necessary services, such as fire and police protection, with Shelby County.
