Mr. Michael Walker CPA currently serves as the City Manager for the City of Lakeland.
Mr. Walker was first involved with the City starting in 2014, when he served on the external audit team as a Senior Manager with Watkins Uiberall, PLLC. In 2018 Mr. Walker started his own private practice, Walker Accounting and Consulting, LLC, in which role his intersection continued with the City of Lakeland during 2019 as he assisted with the financial closing of the City's fiscal year and preparation for the external audit, ultimately resulting in Mr. Walker joining City Staff as the Finance and Human Resources Director in November 2019. The Board of Commissioners appointed Mr. Walker Interim City Manager in June 2022, and City Manager in August 2022.
Mr. Walker's career in public accounting began in 1999 in Little Rock, Arkansas, and shortly thereafter continued in Memphis and Shelby County in 2001. Over the course of his twenty-four year professional career, Mr. Walker is recognized for his expertise in finance and accounting, human resources leadership, and organizational management, with a focus and concentration throughout his career on governmental clients and services.
Mr. Walker led the City of Lakeland to receive its first ever awards from the Government Finance Officer's Association for the City's annual budget and financial reporting processes, and continues to seek and encourage others to constantly improve the quality and nature of our services to our officials, staff, business partners, and ultimately, residents.
